Property Tax Advisor, North Carolina (Contract)

North Carolina / RemoteContractorFlexible, supplementalNorth Carolina attorney

FairAppeal is a financial advisor for homeowners, here to help them better manage their home finances, starting with property taxes. We are hiring advisors who know North Carolina to present prepared cases to county Boards of Equalization and Review on behalf of property owners. You do not need to live in the state, only to be familiar with how it works. We handle the research, the case, and the evidence. You present the case and report the outcome.

Property taxes have increased 31% since 2019, and we are here to help homeowners better manage them. Our team does the research, builds the case, and packages the evidence. Your job is to review the prepared materials, present a clear and persuasive case on the property owner's behalf, handle any informal negotiation with the assessor or board, and report the result back to our team.

This is flexible, supplemental work that suits attorneys who want to take on cases on their own schedule. Informal review with the county tax office is handled in writing or by phone, and many boards hear cases virtually. In-person sessions are staffed locally.

What you’ll own

  • Case review. Review the prepared case materials and supporting evidence ahead of each hearing.
  • Representation. Represent property owners at Board of Equalization and Review hearings across North Carolina.
  • Presentation. Present the evidence clearly and persuasively to board members.
  • Negotiation. Engage in informal negotiation or settlement discussions with the assessor or board where allowed.
  • Reporting. Report hearing outcomes back to the team.

Who you are

  • Active North Carolina attorney license. For property owned by an individual, North Carolina allows only the owner or a licensed North Carolina attorney to present at a Board of Equalization and Review hearing.
  • Comfortable presenting and advocating in a hearing setting.
  • Organized, reliable, and responsive.
  • Familiar with North Carolina and how its local boards work. You do not need to live in the state.

Bonus if you have appeared before a valuation board or previously worked as an assessor, but neither is required. Every case comes to you fully built.

You get fully prepared cases and evidence packets, a flexible caseload you can fit around existing work, and per-case compensation.
